The historic North Chapel in the Point Loma
area of San Diego is ringing in a new era after
undergoing an ambitious renovation by C.W. Clark
to the tune of $1.35 million. The nine-month
program included both interior and exterior
refurbishing and retrofitting of the 64-old
chapel, which served as a place of worship and
celebration for thousands of troops stationed
at the former Naval Training Center. Among the
extensive efforts were structure and roof restoration;
repair of historic stained-glass windows, wooden
pews and pulpit; replacement and upgrading of
electrical, plumbing and heating systems; and
modernization of the outdoor music system and
original pipe organ. Celebrating its rededication
in late 2006, the rejuvenated chapel is available
for lease to religious groups, private individuals
and civic organizations.
Either the main chapel with choir loft, or the
smaller side chapel, are available for events.
